How it Happened:
The UC Golden Eagles' women's tennis team dropped their first MEC match of the year versus West Virginia State on Thursday, leaving their record at 1-1.
UC got off to a convincing start, taking the doubles point with wins at the #1 and #3 line. Prinkle Singh and Haarini Balakrishnan gained their 12th straight victory of the season, verus DII opponents, with a win over Gaya Solomon and Chante Malo. The pairing of Katie Swann and Harriet Glaves also gained a 6-2 victory, putting UC up 1-0 after doubles.
In singles, Prinkle Singh defeated the Yellow Jackets Gaya Solomon in straight sets, 6-2 6-0. Haarini Balakrishnan lost her match by default, while Barbara Balancho and AlexiAnn Drouina also dropped singles matches. Regina Saucedo rallied back and forth with Emily Moore, before gaining a 6-4, 6-4 victory. This marks her 5th victory of the season, competing at the 6th, 5th and 4th line. With the score tied at 3-3, Meggan William fought hard but dropped her tough match 6-2 7-6 (4).
Coach Foote said, "this is a disappointing match for us today, but I have confidence that when our team is back at full strength and fully fit, we will be able to turn this loss around."
