How it Happened
Game One
The Golden Eagles (15-11) opened up a 2-0 lead on Glenville State (6-16), but that evaporated quickly in the fifth inning due to poor defense. The UC offense would come up short in the 5-4 contest.
Allysa Lake opened the scoring in the first inning for UC as she drove a deep fly to center field to score Hannah Rose. Rose reached on a walk, stole second base and was advanced to third on a Kendal Marshall sac bunt. In the fourth, UC scored their second run on nifty base running by Lindsay Reavis as she worked her way around from first base with her legs. She scored on a throwing error by the Glenville State catcher.
After the Pioneers' big fifth inning, Charleston crawled one run closer in the sixth. After consecutive singles by Allysa Lake and Gracie Donato, Reagan West would drive in Lake from third base to make the score 4-3.
Both teams would trade runs in the seventh inning to close out the 5-4 contest. Lake and West both picked up two hits in the game to lead the offense. Dani Bauer (6-9) pitched well enough for the win in the complete game effort.
Game Two
Glenville State came out swinging in game two, delivering a gut punch to UC as they picked up five runs in the first inning, powered by two home runs. The Golden Eagles countered with their own offensive explosion as they outscored the Pioneers 13-1 the rest of the way, resulting in a 13-6 final score. UC swiped 12 bases in the contest, 16 for the day.
Charleston answered Glenville's big inning by scoring three of their own in the first. The usual suspect to open the offense was Hannah Rose. She singled and stole second, her second of three on the day. She would score on an Allysa Lake single. After another run scored on an error, Reagan West would drive in pinch runner Lindsay Reavis who stole a base of her own in the inning.
Glenville State would pick up another run in the second inning to balloon their lead to 6-3, and in the top of the fourth, a leadoff single would show them threatening again. The hit would chase UC relief pitcher Mahea Haegele. Dani Bauer (7-9) would come in to shut down the Pioneer offense for the remainder of the ball game. She would allow only one hit over the final five frames while striking out four.
Charleston would score in every inning but the second. The UC offense was powered by Hannah Rose (2-3, 2 runs), Allysa Lake (2-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), and Regan West (3-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs). Carlie Odejewski would also steal four bases in the game.
