Charleston, W. Va – Charleston was unable to hold their ground against the Kutztown Golden Bears as the Golden Eagles dropped their first game of the year 0-3 against a very talented and well-coached Golden Bear squad.
The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 0, KU 3
Records: UC 0-1, KU 1-0
How it Happened:
After a delay that pushed kickoff to 2:00 p.m., Charleston was unable to find any offense for the majority of the game, only managing three shots the entire match with one being on goal. Defensively, the back line looked very sound and managed to eliminate any attack that came their way. Approximately halfway into the 1
st half, Kutztown's Sadie Goad found an open lane on the far-side wing to play a ball right across the 6-yard box. Isabella Rossetti did not let the perfect opportunity go to waste as she put the ball just over Jordan Maynard's gloves to get the 1-0 advantage.
12 minutes later, a harsh call on Brooke Lucas came just outside the 18-yard box and Kutztown had yet another golden opportunity to score. The free kick was shot around the left edge of the 4-man wall and Jordan Maynard made an incredible save on a speedy shot on the far post. Unfortunately, she was left to fend for herself after the ricochet as three Golden Bears controlled the ball and found the back of the net after a soft touch from Ally Doyle making the deficit 2-0.
The last goal came from Lexy Endres. Endres showed her long range as she scorched a 25-yard missile in the top right corner out of Maynard's reach to put up a 3-0 lead over the Golden Eagles, which was what stood on the board as time ran out at the Welch Athletic Complex on a blistering hot Thursday afternoon.
Although Charleston was missing key players in today's action, the result will surely fuel the fire that Todd Diuguid and the Golden Eagles will need to get back on track.
