How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles traveled to Elkins, West Virginia for a Wednesday night matchup with Mountain East Conference rival Davis and Elkins. Charleston and Davis and Elkins had several battles last season, including a chance to advance to the elite eight, and this match would be no different.

Both squads came out aggressive and ready to play, battling back and forth for possession from the first whistle being blown to the last. The Golden Eagles and the Senators were both eager to strike first, but Charleston went on to win that battle as senior Eduardo Barros sent a shot behind the Senator goalie and into the back of the net off an assist from senior Luis Maestre. The Barros goal in the seventh minute would give Charleston the early lead, but the lead would not hold for long.

In the twentieth minute, a controversial free kick was given in favor of the Senators that allowed Davis and Elkins to score off a soaring shot from Davide Materazzi. The game now tied at 1-1 would remain intense as both sides continued to battle it out on the pitch for the remainder of the first half.

In the seventy-eighth minute, a costly foul in the box by the Golden Eagles led to the Senators being awarded a penalty. The original goal scorer for Davis and Elkins, Davide Materazzi, went on to take the penalty and tallied up his second goal of the night as he drilled the ball into the upper right corner.

The penalty would be the decider in the match as Charleston falls to Davis and Elkins on the road.
