How it Happened
To open up the first period, both Concord and Charleston would knock home eight shots from inside the arc with both squads shooting at least 50% from the field. Concord, with a 66% shooting percentage, would connect on 8-12 shots and took the lead early on in the quarter. It's always hard to tell who was leading the Golden Eagles offensively as points would come from eight different players. After Clarrissa Francis finished a perfect trip to the line, Charleston took a 24-22 lead into the second quarter.
Concord would once again shoot better from the field than the Golden Eagles, but Charleston would find one more shot to go down than the Mountain Lions. Charleston shot very well from deep-range as they connected on 60% of their three-point attempts. Charleston would extend their lead and take a 41-36 lead into the locker room.
Clarrissa Francis opened up the scoring after the break with a triple from deep range to extend the lead to 44-36. Francis would proceed to score the next seven points for the Golden Eagles as her and Concord's Abbie Smith would go toe-to-toe for the opening five minutes. Palacio would take a trip to the line and knock home two free throws, followed with her signature mid-ranger jumper and a triple. The Golden Eagles held a 63-52 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
Reeves would knock home a triple to start the final period to extend the lead to 14 points. Charleston would push their lead to as much as 16 points, but Concord found two consecutive three-pointers. The last second push from the Mountain Lions would not be enough to overcome the deficit created throughout the ballgame and the Golden Eagles would take the strong 80-68 victory.
