Charleston Clinches First Ever MEC South Division Regular Season Title

Charleston, W. Va – Coming into this match, the Golden Eagles were just one point shy of clinching the Mountain East Conference South Division Title, with the only team in their way being the Glenville State Pioneers. The Pioneers were fresh off a 2-0 win over the Senators, but they would face a tough test with the 9th ranked team in the country at home.

How it Happened
On their Senior Day, Charleston was eager to win this match to give their seniors a gift that they would remember for a lifetime. Angela Gatto would drop off the first present with her goal at the 25th minute mark on a beautiful corner kick from Lina Jaime to take the 1-0 advantage. Seven minutes after, Frankie Morrow would find the ball inside the box, which is never a phrase you want to hear if you're facing the Golden Eagles. On an off-balance shot, she would bend it around the Pioneer keeper into the bottom right corner and extend Charleston's lead to 2-0.

Glenville State would capitalize on a corner kick shortly after that was scored by Mackenzie Hendricks to cut the lead in half with 11 minutes left in the half. Rachel Osborne would get her Senior Day goal just before the halftime horn on a second-effort shot to give Charleston the 3-1 heading into the locker room.

The Golden Eagles would strike once more following the halftime break on a goal coming from Carina Widauer. Lucas would lay Widauer into the box and the Austrian would strike gold, giving Charleston a 4-1 lead.

Alison Rothmann would electrify the Senior Day crowd with a shot from MacCorkle Avenue that sailed into the top left corner extending the Golden Eagles' lead to 5-1. The final goal of the match would come from Juliette Lucas as she was given a gift on the doorstep of the goal from Jennifer McArthur to give Charleston a dominant 6-1 lead.

When the final whistle blew, the Golden Eagles stormed the field in celebration of their first ever MEC South Division Regular Season Title.
