How it Happened:
Charleston entered the match on the hunt for at least one point to clinch the Mountain East Conference Regular Season title and in the nineteenth minute of the match they took a step towards that goal. The goal came when Joao Belmudes sent a pass to Gio Diakos in the six yard box that Diakos sent inside the near post for the first Golden Eagle goal of the night.
The teams would head into halftime with Charleston leading 1-0 over West Liberty but quickly into the second half Charleston would strike again. Jack Kay scored the second Charleston goal of the evening when he received a pass from Ken Raghoebar near the six that he went on to place in the back of the net.
Just two minutes later, Joe Gasper was taken down in the eighteen-yard box and was awarded a penalty that none other than Joao Belmudes would step up to take. With his slow approach to the ball, the anticipation built, but as he sent the keeper diving one direction, Belmudes buried the ball into the goal for the 3-0 Charleston advantage.
Charleston would extend their lead once more in the eighty-third minute when Francisco Anton received a pass from Felipe Delgado near the benches. Anton placed a high shot into the top left corner over the outstretched Hilltopper keeper for the fourth goal of the evening.
Charleston went on to take the three points with a 4-0 victory and clinching the MEC Regular Season title.
