How it Happened:
The Glenville State Pioneers snagged the first two points of the game on a kill and a service ace, but the Golden Eagles rocketed to a seven point lead on Glenville errors, a Pia Selke service ace, four kills by Reagan McLean and two kills by Bearnson. Despite the slow start, Glenville clawed their way back into the game and eventually knotted it at 12. They set traded sideouts until the Pioneers pulled ahead and secured the 25-22 first-set win.
An attack error and a five-point service run by Patrycja Majos that exhibited Pioneer errors and kills by Selke, Bearnson and McLean gave the Golden Eagles an early 7-2 lead in the second set. Glenville managed to bounce back and tied the frame at 10, but a seven-point service run by Bearnson and kills by Mai-Lani Hernandez and Emma Shepherd put the Golden Eagles back out in front. Charleston went on to win the frame 25-16 on a service error and attack error by Glenville.
The Golden Eagles came out firing in set three, as Majos went on another service run to put Charleston ahead by seven. UC continued to build momentum and extended the lead to eleven with two service aces by Bearnson and kills by Mai-Lani Hernandez, Shepherd and Selke. The Pioneers were unable to catch up to the Golden Eagles, and lost the set 25-16.
The fourth set of the night was a quick one with Charleston winning it 25-10. Charleston put the first five points on the board with four straight kills by Selke and a kill by Majos. The Pioneers snuck a kill in here-and-there, however nothing was stopping the Golden Eagles. UC continued to stretch the lead, as Shepherd went on a six-point service run where she collected five aces. The Golden Eagles sealed the deal on more kills by Majos, Selke and McLean and a Pioneer service error. They defeated Glenville 25-10 to give them their eleventh conference win of the season.
McLean, Selke and Shepherd led the Golden Eagles offense, as they each had 10 kills each. Shepherd also collected five service aces, while Bearnson and Majos had four of their own. Chloe Fortner and McLean played solid defense with Fortner snagging 16 digs and McLean collecting two blocks. Senior Maria Hernandez also had 25 assists.
