How it Happened:
The Semifinal matchup between the familiar Mountain Lions and Golden Eagles was sure to be exciting as Concord was coming off a high after an overtime victory on Sunday over the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. In the last meeting between Charleston and Concord, UC defeated the Mountain Lions 5-0, but Concord would not lay down so easily this time around.
The first half of the match was scoreless, but the Golden Eagles were in control, taking eleven shots compared to Concords two, both of which were off target, not posing much threat to Charleston.
The Golden Eagles, who are not new to post season play, came out with composure in the second half, applying pressure to the Mountain Lion defense. In the sixtieth minute of the match, Charleston broke the scoring open when
Stafford Dowling found striker
Jack Kay in the box. Kay worked his way around a defender and sent the ball past the keeper into the back of the net for UC's first goal of the match.
With momentum on their side, Charleston continued to apply pressure and just two minutes later scored again. Timely ball movement from
Stafford Dowling and Ken
Ken Raghoebar on the right wing sent a pass into the box for
Jack Kay who once again found the goal.
Charleston would maintain control of the match, defeating Concord 2-0 and advancing to the Mountain East Conference Final.
