Golden Eagles Mercy Rule Virginia Union Panthers Twice in Doubleheader Match-up

Game 1: UC 25, Virginia Union 0 (5 Innings)

Charleston had 14 different players register at least one hit resulting in a lopsided, five inning 25-0 victory over Virginia Union in game one.

Up 4-0 after two innings, UC exploded for 16 runs in the third to put the game well out of reach. The big inning was highlighted by a deep Allysa Lake grand slam and a three-run-homer by Hannah Rose.

Rose continued her monster start to the season as she was 3-3 for the game scoring three runs and stealing two bases in addition to blasting her first homer of the season. Lake was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with a homer, a single, and four RBIs.

Raegan West (2-2, 3 RBIs), Brittny Ogg (1-1, 2 Runs, 2 SB, 2 RBIs), Brionna Bowman (1-2, 2 runs, 2 SB, 2B, 2 RBIs), Jeritza Montero (2-2, 3 runs, 1 RBI), Carlie Odejewski (2-3, 1 RBI), and Isabella Landrum (1-1, 2B, 2 RBIs) all had big games.

The beneficiary of all of the run support was Brianna McCown (2-2) as she picked up her second consecutive victory. McCown struck out 11 and surrendered only two hits on the day.

Game 2: UC 8, Virginia Union 0 (5 Innings)

The Golden Eagles kept the pressure on in game two as they cruised to another five-inning victory, 8-0. Freshman catcher, Kaleigh Serra, led the offense in her debut behind the plate. She was 3-3 with 2 stolen bases, while scoring one run and knocking in her first run of the season. Allysa Lake continued her hot hitting as she had a ringing RBI double and a sacrifice fly. Brionna Bowman added a two-run double and scored a run.

Danielle Bauer (1-1) was nearly un-hittable as she only allowed a bunt single to lead off the third inning. She induced the next batter into a slick double play as second baseman Montero flipped to Rose who fired the ball to Emma Groe at first, extinguishing the only threat the Panthers could muster. Bauer did not allow another player to reach base facing the minimum number of batters for the game.

The Golden Eagles have been hot as they registered their fourth consecutive mercy-rule victory. Over the span, UC has outscored their opponents 54-4.
