Golden Eagles Roll at Home in 5th Consecutive Win

Box Score Charleston, W. Va – The 17th ranked Golden Eagles have made quite the impression across campus, earning their first national ranking since 2016. On Wednesday, they would face the Concord Mountain Lions for an MEC Matchup at home. Concord came to the Capital City winners of their last two matches against West Virginia State and Davis & Elkins by a combined score of 7-2.

The Basics
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 3, CU 0
Records: UC 5-0-1 (4-0-0 MEC), CU 2-2-1 (2-1-0 MEC)

How it Happened
It would be in the 14th minute that Charleston was able to score the first goal of the match. Carina Widaur from the far-side of the box would play a low cross towards the net that pinballed around and found Juliette Lucas for the easy tap-in for the 1-0 advantage.

Concord would be limited to just three shots in the first half going towards the Kanawha River, but they were able to force two saves out of Jordan Maynard who sought after her fourth consecutive clean sheet. Charleston compiled eight shots in the first 45 minutes played with two on target, but they would have to settle for the one-goal advantage heading into the locker room.

The second goal of the match would go to Charleston after the break in the 70th minute. Charleston, who had been knocking on the door all half, finally had a pristine opportunity with Carina Widaur unmarked at the top of the box. Hannah Goes would put the ball on a silver platter for Widaur who capitalized on the great pass as she sent the ball into the lower right corner for the 2-0 lead.

The final goal of the match would be Lucas' second of the day. Lina Jaime would intercept a Concord goal kick and put the ball right on line with Lucas who wasted no time at all burying her shot into the net to give Charleston a 3-0 lead with just six minutes left to play. Charleston would hold on for the shutout victory at home and the Golden Eagles would win their fifth consecutive match of the year.
