ETTRICK, Va. — The University of Charleston women's basketball team struggled to find its rhythm on the road, falling to Virginia State 77-45 on Wednesday evening at the Multipurpose Center.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started strong, with sophomore Jamia Nesmith scoring seven points in the first quarter to keep Charleston competitive, though they trailed 22-15 after the opening frame.
Charleston's offense hit a slump in the second quarter, managing just eight points. Despite strong rebounding efforts from senior Kiley Graham, who finished with a game-high 10 boards, Virginia State extended its lead to 35-23 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles showed resilience in the third quarter, led by Nesmith, who added five points and finished with a team-high 17. Freshman Kiara Cruz contributed two crucial three-pointers, but Virginia State's consistent scoring pushed the Trojans ahead 56-39 heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Charleston managed only six points as turnovers plagued their efforts to mount a comeback. Nesmith added late free throws, but Virginia State closed the game strong to secure the win.
