Glenville, W. Va – On Wednesday night, Charleston would head north to face the Pioneers of Glenville State. These two teams last met back on November 21
st where the Pioneers came to the Wehrle Innovation Center and left with a 96-73 victory. Three months later, they would face off once more, but the Golden Eagles would have much in store for the defending Mountain East Conference Champions.

How it Happened
Despite the Golden Eagles converting 64% from the floor in the opening quarter on the road, the Pioneers would outscore Charleston 23-17. It would be Glenville State's ability to hit their shots from beyond the arc, draining 5-7 attempts from three-point land. Charleston would start the game hot with an 8-0 run forcing a timeout by the Pioneers, but Glenville State would begin to light up the floor. They would take the 17-16 lead after Dejaan Schuler sank a three-pointer at the 2:42 mark. After back-to-back triples from Hya Haywood in the closing stages of the quarter, the Pioneers held the 23-17 lead. Glenville State would once again outscore Charleston in the following quarter 18-14 and extended their lead. The Golden Eagles would have their lowest conversion rate of the game in the quarter at 40% and could not manage to find any three-pointers in the half. Glenville State added on three more triples and seven shots from inside the arc to take a 41-31 lead into the locker room.
Charleston exploded out the gate following the halftime break; they would hold Glenville State to just 10 points in the third quarter and found 22 points of their own on the other end of the court. The visitors would hit 77% of their shots throughout the period, with Taylor Austin leading the charge and contributing seven points. Charleston held a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter and their shooting would only improve. They would shoot 82% from the floor and found 21 points in the quarter. Their defensive play would also play a factor in the contest once again as they would hold the Pioneers to very little offense with 13 points in the quarter. The Golden Eagles' second half comeback would give them the 74-64 victory over Glenville State.
