How It Happened
Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early in the first quarter. After Wheeling opened the scoring, Charleston went nearly three minutes before Livia O'Dea scored the Golden Eagles' first points. UC briefly took a one-point lead on a Harper Annarino free throw, and neither team scored for the next two minutes. Charleston closed the quarter strong, taking a 12–9 lead after a Jordan Scully three-pointer.
Charleston shifted gears in the second quarter, opening with an 11–2 run capped by a Paris Stokes fast-break layup. Wheeling attempted to respond, but the Golden Eagles maintained control. After the Cardinals cut the deficit to around 10, Stokes converted an and-one, helping Charleston carry a 15-point advantage into halftime.
The Golden Eagles continued their momentum in the third quarter. O'Dea scored on another fast break before Annarino added a layup and a free throw. She followed with another basket off an assist from Bridget Womber, giving UC its largest lead of the game at 20 points. Wheeling answered with a late run, trimming the deficit to 12 heading into the fourth quarter.
Charleston appeared poised for a comfortable finish when Annarino tipped in a missed three to extend the lead to 14 early in the final period. However, Wheeling refused to back down, mounting a late rally that cut the Golden Eagles' lead to just three points with 1:22 remaining. After Mitric knocked down a free throw for UC, the Cardinals had an opportunity at the line to pull within two. Charleston responded with strong defense and clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch to secure the 56–51 victory.
Harper Annarino led the way with a dominant double-double, recording 17 points and 15 rebounds.
