Charleston Goes 4-0 in Final Weekend of Regular Season

Charleston, W.Va. – Charleston ended the regular season on a high, taking four victories on the weekend including a senior day sweep against Fairmont State.
 
GAME 1
 
The Basics:
Location: Watt Powell Annex
Score: UC 4. FSU 3
Records: UC 27-14 (18-9 MEC) Frostburg State 11-34 (6-19 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles snatched the lead late in their 4-3 victory over Frostburg State on Friday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the fifth when Brittny Ogg hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Addison Mass struck out 14 batters on the day. The hurler also gave up four hits and three runs over seven innings while walking two.

Charleston opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to two singles. The Golden Eagles first got on the board when Raegan West singled, scoring one run.

Frostburg State tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a single by Samara Funk, a ground out by Brianna Russo, and a single by Sage Haller.

Ally Myers took the loss for Frostburg State. The hurler went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run on three hits, striking out one and walking three. Izabella Donaldson began the game for Frostburg State. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking three.

Kyra Gooler led the Golden Eagles with two runs batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Golden Eagles had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Ella Zucchero and Taylor Hodson led the team with two walks each. The Golden Eagles didn't commit a single error in the field. Hannah Meyer had the most chances in the field with 14.
 
GAME 2
 
The Basics:

How it Happened:
Kyra Gooler collected three hits in three at bats, as the Golden Eagles defeated Frostburg State 13-3 on Friday at Watt Powell Annex. Gooler doubled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the first inning.

Charleston won thanks in part to 10 runs in the fourth inning.  Hannah Meyer drew a walk, scoring one run, Julia Meagher induced Lindsey Phares to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Kayla Moran singled, scoring one run, Brittny Ogg singled, scoring one run, Raegan West hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Lindsey Reavis grounded out, scoring one run, Allison Rubal singled, scoring one run, Gooler singled, scoring one run, Meyer singled, scoring one run, and Phares singled, scoring one run.

Frostburg State opened the scoring in the top of the third thanks to three singles. Frostburg State first got on the board when Arden Miller singled, scoring one run.

The Golden Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a double by Gooler, a double by Meyer, and a ground out by Phares.

Chloe Elliott earned the win for UC as the starting pitcher gave up nine hits and three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none. Sage Haller took the loss for Frostburg State. The reliever went one inning, surrendering four runs on zero hits, striking out none and walking four. Ally Myers stepped in the circle first for Frostburg State. The starter allowed six hits and three runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none.

The Golden Eagles amassed 12 hits in the game. Gooler and Meyer were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for UC. Phares and Meyer were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Golden Eagles.
 
GAME 3
 
The Basics:
Location: Watt Powell Annex
Score: UC 8, FSU 2
Records: UC 29-14 (20-9 MEC) Fairmont State 34-16-1 (19-8 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
Lindsey Phares collected three hits in four at bats, as the Golden Eagles defeated the Fighting Falcons 8-2 on Sunday. Phares hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, doubled in the second inning, and doubled in the third inning.

The Fighting Falcons were the first to get on the board in the first when Emma Paul singled, scoring one run. A double by Raegan West then gave the Golden Eagles the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second.

Paul singled down the left field line, which helped the Fighting Falcons tie the game at two in the top of the third.

Charleston captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the third after Taylor Hodson singled down the right field line, and Kayla Moran hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Phares hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth for the the Golden Eagles.

Addison Mass earned the win for UC as the starting pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking two. Caitlin Morey took the loss for Fighting Falcons. The right-handed pitcher went two and one-third innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.
 
GAME 4
 
The Basics:
Location: Watt Powell Annex
Score: UC 5, FSU 1
Records: UC 30-14 (21-9 MEC) Fairmont State 34-17-1 (19-9 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles were the first to get on the board in the second when Allison Rubal singled, scoring two runs.

Chloe Elliott earned the win for Charleston. The starter surrendered three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Delaney Haller took the loss for Fighting Falcons. The hurler went three innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking four.

Rubal led the Golden Eagles with two runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Ella Zucchero, Charleston's number nine hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Golden Eagles worked the count all day, piling up four walks. The Golden Eagles ran wild on the base paths, collecting three stolen bases for the game. The Golden Eagles were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Kayla Moran made the most plays with seven.
 
Up Next:
Charleston has earned the #2 seed in the south division and will play the #3 seed in the north Point Park in the first round of the MEC Tournament. The game is set for 5:00PM on Wednesday at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, VA.
