How It Happened
Concord came out firing, launching the game's first shot just 23 seconds in, only to be denied by a Charleston defender. Early possession favored Concord, whose game plan was clicking as they kept Charleston on their heels. Around the 15-minute mark, Concord threatened the goal with two more attempts, forcing goalkeeper Sofia Chaverra into her first saves of the match.
The Golden Eagles slowly found their rhythm, with newcomers Debaecker and Freese each taking shots, though both narrowly missed. As the half progressed, the bench was busy with substitutions on both sides, but despite the intense battle, the teams remained deadlocked at halftime with a scoreless 0-0.
The second half intensified as both teams sought the crucial opening goal. Anae Buehlmann fired the first shot of the half, saved cleanly by Concord's keeper. The Mountain Lions then took control, pressing forward relentlessly. Charleston responded with a disciplined low block, hoping to capitalize on counterattacks.
Chaverra was the star of the half, turning away shot after shot. She made three stunning saves in quick succession and pulled off an incredible reflex stop on a Concord header with just 10 minutes remaining. Offensively, Charleston threatened late, with Li-Lou Debaecker's skillful dribbling causing problems for the visitors. In the final minute, after slipping past a defender with a slick nutmeg, Debaecker found Buehlmann in the box, whose shot sailed just over the crossbar.
The game ended in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
Sofia Chaverra was exceptional, racking up an incredible 10 saves and securing another clean sheet for Charleston this season.
