Golden Eagles Pull Away Late to Defeat Point Park

Pittsburgh, PA – The Golden Eagles opened the new year with momentum, securing their second straight win with a 74–56 victory over MEC opponent Point Park University.

The Basics
  • Location: CCAC-Allegheny
  • Final Score: UC 74, PPU 56
  • Records: Charleston (7-6, 5-2 MEC), Point Park (3-8, 1-6 MEC)
How It Happened
Coming off a hard-fought win to start out 2026 against Fairmont State, Charleston carried that momentum into its second contest of the year.
Bridget Womber got the Golden Eagles on the board early with back-to-back layups, but Point Park answered immediately. The opening quarter featured a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm. The Pioneers closed the period on a 7-0 run to take a narrow edge after one.
The second quarter saw Charleston begin to settle in offensively. After Point Park scored the first basket of the period, UC responded with improved ball movement and shot selection. With 4:35 remaining, Noelle Polanco knocked down her second consecutive three-pointer to knot the game at 23. Point Park briefly regained momentum, but Ksenija Mitric closed the half strong, sinking four straight free throws to keep Charleston within striking distance at the break.

The back-and-forth nature of the game continued into the third quarter, which featured seven lead changes in the first six minutes alone. Neither team was able to pull away until late in the period, when Charleston finally created separation. A 6-0 Golden Eagle run with 1:34 remaining—highlighted by four points from Paris Stokes—gave UC a 52-46 advantage heading into the final frame.
Charleston carried that momentum into the fourth quarter and never looked back. A Mitric three-pointer followed by a Womber and-one extended the lead to 12, the largest of the game at that point. Point Park trimmed the deficit to seven, but the Golden Eagles' offense continued to click. A Womber tip-in at the three-minute mark pushed the lead to 16, and clutch baskets from Sadé Anderson and Polanco sealed the victory as Charleston cruised to the 74-56 win.

Charleston controlled the paint throughout the contest, outscoring Point Park 40–16 inside. The balanced attack was evident, as five Golden Eagles finished in double figures.
