How It Happened
Both teams came out strong, with Point Park recording the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, though the attempt missed the target. Three minutes later, Charleston nearly took the lead. Following a long free kick, Allison Freese delivered a cross into the box, where Nele Schuppe connected with a header that forced an excellent goal-line save from the Pioneers' goalkeeper. The Golden Eagles controlled much of the possession throughout the opening half, although clear scoring opportunities were limited. In the 35th minute, Devan Rosensweig received the ball with a defender applying pressure from behind, turned toward goal, and fired a left-footed shot that was comfortably saved. Point Park threatened late in the half with a free kick from the right side in the 39th minute, but Ines Degli Esposti made the save to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
The second half remained tightly contested. Point Park came close to opening the scoring in the 51st minute after a long throw-in led to a loose ball in the box. A Pioneers attacker collected the ball, turned, and unleashed a powerful shot that beat Degli Esposti but struck the crossbar. Point Park eventually broke the deadlock in the 64th minute. After a long ball played in behind the Charleston defense, the Golden Eagles initially cleared the danger, but the ball fell to a Pioneers attacker on the left wing. She took a touch forward before firing a left-footed shot into the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Charleston pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages. In the 85th minute, a cross from the left found Jamie Bland in the box, but her header sailed over the crossbar and was collected by the goalkeeper. Point Park held on through the final minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.
