How it Happened
The first quarter between the Golden Eagles and the Pioneers was highly contested. Senior Ksenija Mitric got UC started with back-to-back threes to open the game. Halfway through the quarter the game was tied at 6, until Jordan "JoJo" Scully broke the tie with a jumper making it 8-6. Point Park would score right back, and the game would be deadlocked. With only a few seconds left in the quarter, Bridget Womber of UC grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for the score and a foul. This gave The Golden Eagles the 11-8 advantage.
Livia O'Dea got Charleston started in the second with a jumper. Jordan Scully followed making a jump shot of her own. The Golden Eagles and Pioneers traded baskets for the first half of the second quarter. However, Livia O'Dea nailed a three-point shot which lit a fire under the Golden Eagles. UC went on a 16-1 run to end the half with buckets by Noelle Polanco, Naveah Brooks and Bridget Womber. Brooks, a freshman, beat the buzzer with the layup to end half. Charleston went to the break up big 33-19.
Point Park got off to a quick start to begin the half as they would score the first few baskets to open the third quarter. UC's Ksenija Mitric stayed hot and drained back-to-back three pointers, giving the Golden Eagles a double-digit lead. Charleston pulled away this quarter, really giving the Pioneers a steep hill to climb. Good defense and timely shots put The Golden Eagles up big headed into the fourth quarter 51-37.
UC ran away with the fourth quarter as they only seemed to know two things: scoring and defense. All five starters had a bucket in the fourth as Charleston put the pedal to the metal outscoring the Pioneers 17-12 in the fourth and taking the game 66-49.
Ksenija Mitric led all scorers with 19 points, and Neveah Brooks followed with 13 of her own. Bridget Womber had 13 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double!
