Fairmont, WV – Golden Eagles lose in a top conference showdown against Fairmont State.

The Basics
·      Location: Joe Retton Arena, Fairmont, WV
·      Final Score: UC 64, FSU 76
·      Records: Charleston (13-8, 10-4 MEC), Fairmont St. (16-4, 10-3 MEC)

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles struck first as Jordan Scully hit a three pointer to get out to 3-0 lead. Scully, the freshman, went on to play all forty minutes in this game. UC would score again as Livia O'Dea would go to the basket for a layup, giving Charleston a 5-0 advantage with seven minutes left in the quarter. Fairmont State would go on a 7-0 run after this, however after another Scully three pointer and an O'Dea layup, both teams were trading buckets. Fairmont State would end up with the upper hand and end the first up 13-12.

Fairmont State started the second quarter on fire. With a couple of quick three pointers and a layup, they put the Golden Eagles back against the wall. Now down 21-12 the Eagles had to return fire as Jordan Scully and Paris Stokes combined for three consecutive three pointers to tie the game up at 21. The Falcons would once again take the lead this quarter but not without the Golden Eagles putting up a fight. The Falcons still held the advantage at halftime 36-33.

Fairmont State came out of the break with a purpose as the Falcons started on a 7-2 run. After a couple of free throws and a three-point shot from Gabby Reep, the Falcons took a double-digit lead leading 48-38. The Golden Eagles clawed their way back and with a one-minute left two Neveah Brooks free-throws had UC only down by one. Unfortunately for Charleston, Fairmont State would make two baskets to leave the third with a six-point lead of 55-49.

The Golden Eagles looked to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter as they brought the lead within four to 58-54. Fairmont State returned the favor eventually increasing to a nine-point lead with just seven minutes left in the game. Jordan Scully, Ksenija Mitric, and Neveah Brooks all had points in this quarter, but it just wasn't enough. The Falcons had the lead and ran with it pulling away late and stealing a competitive victory over UC 76-64.

Jordan Scully lead the Golden Eagles in points with 19 while also nailing five three pointers. Paris Stokes, Ksenija Mitric, and Livia O'Dea all had 10 points tonight with multiple rebounds to their names.
