Salem, VA – The University of Charleston softball team picked up a 6–0 win over Shepherd on Sunday afternoon in Salem, Virginia.

How It Happened:
Shepherd threatened early in the top of the first after C. Russian drew a walk, but Charleston starter Cali Masters shut the door with back-to-back strikeouts of McAllister and H. Hartman before forcing B. Collis to fly out to right field.
Charleston broke through in the bottom of the second. After K. Moran grounded out, D. Pici reached on a walk. A single from A. Espinoza moved the runner into scoring position and brought home the game's first run as Pici crossed the plate to give the Golden Eagles a 1–0 lead.
The Golden Eagles added another run in the bottom of the fourth. K. Moran singled and later stole second before advancing to third on a groundout by D. Pici. E. Smith then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Moran to score and extend Charleston's lead to 2–0.
Charleston broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning with a four-run frame. S. Compton singled after entering as a pinch hitter, and B. Polistina followed with a single to put two runners on. E. Zucchero added another base hit to load the bases before T. Hodson delivered the big swing of the inning with a double that drove in three runs. Later in the inning, K. Moran added a sacrifice fly to bring home another run, giving Charleston a commanding 6–0 advantage.
Shepherd mounted its best scoring chance in the sixth inning with multiple singles from S. Witz, H. Putnam, S. Colaw, and J. Alexander to load the bases, but the Golden Eagles escaped the jam to keep the Rams off the board.
Charleston closed out the game in the seventh inning to secure the shutout victory.
