Viera, Fla. — The University of Charleston softball team dropped a tightly contested matchup to Winona State, 2–1, on Friday morning during the Space Coast Spring Games at the USSSA Space Coast Complex.

How It Happened:
Charleston threatened early in the top of the first when Elle Zucchero worked a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball, but the Golden Eagles were unable to bring her home.

Winona State took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double to make it 1–0.

Both teams were held in check through the middle innings as Charleston's defense kept the game within reach.

Charleston broke through in the top of the seventh. C. Dunn led off the inning with a single to left field before A. Hurley entered as a pinch runner. Hurley stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. K. Moran then grounded out to second base, allowing Hurley to score and tie the game at 1–1.

Winona State responded in the bottom of the seventh with a run to walk off the game and secure the 2–1 victory.
