Fairmont, W.Va. – The University of Charleston's Mari Filippa Larsen won the MEC Women's Golf Spring Classic as she shot a 153 and claimed the MEC Women's Golf Player of the Year.
The annual spring golf event, held Sunday and Monday at Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont, West Virginia, determined the MEC's top individual honors: Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and all-conference teams. The awards were determined by individual performances during five MEC-sponsored rounds of golf, three of which occurred during the fall at Cobb Course at the Resort at Glade Springs, combined with the two-day event at Green Hills.
Larsen, a sophomore from Norway, earned the Player of the Year honors after shooting a 385 in the five combined rounds with an average of 77. She also helped the Golden Eagles win the event with a team score of 625.
Glenville State's Moa Lindgren was named the MEC Freshman of the Year. Lindgren, who is from Klagerup, Sweden, earned the honor after shooting a 408 in the five combined rounds with an average of 81.6. She helped the Pioneers placed second at the MEC Women's Golf Spring Classic with a team score of 640.
The University of Charleston's Will Johnson was named the MEC Coach of the Year for the second straight year. He helped the Golden Eagles to the MEC Women's Golf Championship back in October and a first-place finish at the Spring Classic.
The MEC recognizes six first-teamers, six second-teamers, and six for honorable mention. All honorees are listed below.
