Charleston, W.Va. — Charleston softball secured a conference doubleheader sweep over Glenville State on Friday afternoon at the UC Softball Field, taking Game 1 by a 3-1 score before edging out a 1-0 win in Game 2.
GAME 1
The Basics:

Score: Charleston 3, Glenville State 1
Records: Charleston (25-10, 9-2 MEC), Glenville State (21-10, 8-3 MEC)
How It Happened:
After two scoreless innings to open the game, Charleston broke through in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Ella Zucchero singled and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Taylor Hodson followed with a single to center field, bringing Zucchero home for the first run of the game.
Charleston added to its lead in the fourth inning as Danielle Pici launched a solo home run to left center, making it 2-0.
Glenville State answered in the top of the fifth. Emily Nolan drew a walk and Addie Hicks entered as a pinch runner, stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Lillian Burn then singled to bring Hicks home, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Charleston responded in the bottom half of the inning. Ella Zucchero tripled to lead things off, and after a walk and stolen base put runners in scoring position, Caraline Dunn delivered a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Zucchero and extending the lead to 3-1.
Addison Mass controlled the game from there, tossing a complete game and limiting Glenville State to just one run to secure the win.
GAME 2

Score: Charleston 1, Glenville State 0
Records: Charleston (26-10, 10-2 MEC), Glenville State (21-11, 8-4 MEC)
How It Happened:
Game 2 was a pitcher's duel early, with both teams held scoreless through the first three innings.
Charleston broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Cali Masters singled to start the inning and Jackie Gachupin entered as a pinch runner. Maddie Entler followed with a single to right field, advancing Gachupin to third. Aubriana Espinoza then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Gachupin to score the only run of the game.
Cali Masters handled the rest in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just three hits. Glenville State put runners on late, including in the seventh inning, but Charleston held firm to complete the sweep.

Charleston returns to action on Saturday, April 4 for a conference doubleheader against Concord University at the UC Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with Game 2 set for 4:00 p.m.
