How It Happened
Glenville State came out of the gates strong, recording the first two shots of the game within the opening five minutes, with the second attempt hitting the woodwork. Charleston quickly settled into the match, responding with two shots of its own, both off target. Ines Degli Esposti made her first save of the night in the ninth minute, while the Pioneers' goalkeeper was called into action two minutes later. Both teams continued to battle through the remainder of the first half. In the 34th minute, Jamie Bland and Sydney Crowe recorded back-to-back shots, but both attempts were saved by the Glenville State goalkeeper. Neither team was able to break through before halftime, sending the match into the break tied 0-0.
The Golden Eagles came out looking to take control in the second half, recording the first two shots of the period. Neither created a serious threat, however, and Glenville State broke the deadlock in the 55th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Charleston looked for an immediate response, with Devan Rosensweig putting a shot on goal that was once again saved by the Pioneers' goalkeeper. Glenville State doubled its advantage in the 63rd minute, making it a 2-0 game. The Golden Eagles continued to push forward in search of a comeback, generating several chances in the final minutes. Zana Jo Anderson had an opportunity before Sydney Crowe recorded two more shots in the final 10 minutes, but none found the back of the net. Glenville State held on through the final whistle to secure the 2-0 victory.
Charleston finished the match with a 17-11 advantage in shots, including a 6-6 tie in shots on goal, but all six of the Golden Eagles' shots on target were saved.
