TIGERVILLE, S.C. — The University of Charleston football team jumped out to an early 17-point lead but saw North Greenville rally in the second half as the Golden Eagles fell 42-31 Friday night at Younts Stadium.

How it Happened:
Charleston opened the game with a strong offensive performance, scoring on its first possession as quarterback Matt Frye connected with Devin Hobbs on a 19-yard touchdown pass to give the Golden Eagles a 7-0 advantage with 8:12 remaining in the first quarter. UC extended its lead early in the second quarter when Kalen Washington powered into the end zone from one yard out, capping a 14-play, 95-yard drive. Zachary Alvarez added a 28-yard field goal later in the quarter to push the Charleston advantage to 17-0.
North Greenville answered with a pair of touchdowns before halftime, cutting the deficit to 17-14 at the break. The Trailblazers continued their momentum into the third quarter, taking their first lead of the night at 21-17 before Charleston responded with another long scoring drive. Frye found Wesley Sweeney for a 17-yard touchdown with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter, putting the Golden Eagles back in front, 24-21.
The lead changed hands several times early in the fourth quarter. North Greenville opened the period with a 61-yard touchdown pass, but Charleston answered almost immediately when Frye connected with Caleb Barringer for a 74-yard touchdown strike, giving UC a 31-28 lead with 12:10 remaining. The Trailblazers, however, scored two more touchdowns in the final nine minutes to secure the 42-31 victory.
Frye turned in a strong performance through the air, completing 20 of 34 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. Barringer led the Golden Eagles with 89 receiving yards, including his 74-yard touchdown, while Hobbs added five catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Jamal Wallace paced the Charleston rushing attack with 71 yards on 16 carries.
As a team, Charleston finished with 410 yards of total offense, including 288 passing yards and 122 rushing yards. The Golden Eagles also converted 6-of-14 third-down opportunities and recorded three sacks defensively.
North Greenville finished the night with 493 yards of total offense, including 238 rushing yards. Kam Montgomery led the Trailblazers with 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns while also throwing for 238 yards and a touchdown.
With the loss, Charleston moves to 0-3 on the season. The Golden Eagles return to action looking to rebound and earn their first victory of the 2026 campaign.
