Portsmouth, Ohio- The University of Charleston Golden Eagles travelled to Portsmouth, OH this past Sunday for a Mountain East Conference matchup against Shawnee State University.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles had the first shot of the game through Caio Moraes in the 10th minute, and then Moraes put in a good delivery from a corner which somehow evaded everyone. It was him again that was thwarted expertly in the 25th minute by a last gasp block on the line by a Shawnee State Bear, before Pedro Arbizu came close from a header off a corner, and then his dipping volley was saved well down low to the keeper's right. Eventually, in the 29th minute the deadlock was broken. A Jose Suarez Monaco shot was saved, but the rebound was swept in by Moraes for his third goal of the season. The 1-0 scoreline did not change as the game reached its interval.
Into the second half and it was Tomas Petrungaro with the first sighter after the break, but it was saved by former Golden Eagles Eduardo Pena. In the 66th minute however, Petrungaro got the better of Pena as his strike from the edge of the area kissed the post as it sailed into the top corner to double Charleston's lead. Atem Kato and Miku Dawit came close to adding to the scoreline late on, but neither could divert their shots on target. The Golden Eagles came out as 2-0 winners, perhaps disappointed to not win by a bigger margin having registered fifteen shots to Shawnee State's zero.
