How It Happened
The Golden Eagles faced early pressure from the Bobcats, who nearly opened the scoring within the first minute. Following a throw-in in their own half, Frostburg worked the ball down the right wing before a shot from outside the box struck the crossbar. A few minutes later, Frostburg capitalized on a Charleston turnover inside the box to take a 1-0 lead.
Charleston began to settle into the game and create chances of its own. Li-Lou Debaecker recorded the Golden Eagles' first shot in the 15th minute, but the attempt was saved by the Frostburg goalkeeper. The remainder of the first half featured a battle between both teams, with chances on both sides, but Frostburg took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Charleston came out of the break looking to level the match. Frostburg recorded the first three shots of the second half, but none were on target. In the 66th minute, the Golden Eagles found their equalizer. After Charleston cleared the ball, Frostburg attempted to build from the back, but a poor touch allowed Abigail Harrison to apply pressure and win possession from a center back. Harrison then used her right foot to round the goalkeeper before finishing into the empty net to make it 1-1.
With 16 minutes remaining, Frostburg nearly regained the lead after a bouncing ball fell to a Bobcats attacker, who fired a first-time shot. Ines Degli Esposti quickly got down to make the save and keep Charleston level. Frostburg continued to apply pressure through several corner kicks, but Degli Esposti remained strong in the box to keep the Golden Eagles in the game. In the 84th minute, Frostburg regained the lead. A quick transition sent the ball down the left wing, where a low cross found a Bobcats attacker, who finished to make it 2-1.
Charleston pushed for a late equalizer but was unable to find the goal as Frostburg held on for the 2-1 victory.
