Huntington, W.Va.–The University of Charleston Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed Friday morning at the Thundering Herd XC Invitational, located at Marshall University.
The men's team placed first overall in the 5k with 21 points, sweeping the top 4 finishes. Mathew Meli lead the way for UC, finishing 1st with a time of 14:18.6, good for a new course record. Kelvin Kipchumba was right behind him, finishing 2nd in 14:38.7. Nathan Bonnet took 3rd (15:25.7) and Mohamed Salahedine Ensaad placed 4th (15:26.3).
The women's team came in second in the 5k with 62 points, only trailing Marshall. Joyleen Korir was the top performer for Charleston, finishing 6th in 18:32.0. Amanda Ferrante placed 12th (19:30.9) and Sara Odierna-Fernandez took 15th(19:46.5).
