Marshall Cooper will be entering his 3rd season at the University of Charleston as the Defensive Coordinator/ Linebacker’s Coach for the Golden Eagles.
COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
Coach Cooper started his coaching career here at the University of Charleston in 2022 coming in as a Graduate Assistant coaching the Running Back’s / Tight End’s.
Cooper helped coach one of the best offensive units in the MEC in 2022. The Golden Eagles finished (1) in Scoring Offense, (1) in Redzone TD’s, (1) in Total Plays, (1) in 4th Down Conversions, and (1) in Redzone Scoring. He coached Running Back, Chavon Wright (MEC Offense Freshman of the Year, Don Hansen Honorable Mention All-American, 2nd Team All-Region, and 1st Team All-MEC recipient). He also coached Tight End Niko Kausky to 1st Team All-MEC honors. The Golden Eagles finished the season 6-5.
Going into the 2023 season Cooper switched over to the defensive side of the ball taking over as the Linebacker’s Coach and Head Strength Coach.
Coach Cooper helped coach a unit that was one of the best in the MEC and was a part of a team which had an historic year for the Golden Eagles program. The 2023 University of Charleston football program finished with a 10-2 record and won the Mountain East Conference Championship for the first time in school history. They proceeded to go on and win the first playoff game in school history. Cooper coached three linebackers to post season awards: Willie Floyd (1st team All-MEC), Aden Miller (2nd team All-MEC), and Thaxton Gallagher (Honorable Mention All-MEC).
PLAYING HIGHLIGHTS
Marshall Cooper was a 1st Team All-Chattanooga and District Player of the Year football player coming out of Hixson High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After his high school career, he walked on at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he earned a scholarship and played in 33 games for the Mocs.
At the end of his career, Marshall was a 2x-Southern Conference All-Conference Linebacker, 2x-Southern Conference All-Academic, 2x-Southern Conference Honor Roll, 3x-Southern Conference Player of the Week, 1x-FCS National Player of the Week, named to the NFF Hampshire Society, recipient of the SGA Athletic Leadership Award, and recipient of the Southern Conference Commissioner Medal. Cooper was voted team captain for the 2019 season.
Marshall graduated with honors with a degree in Sport’s Management with a Minor in Marketing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2019.
