Michael Nyquist joined the University of Charleston Athletic Training staff in March of 2012 in the role of Head Athletic Trainer and Instructor in the exercise science program. Nyquist is currently serving his 11th year with the Golden Eagles.
He currently serves as the athletic trainer for Football, men’s and women’s cross country, and the men's and women's track and field teams. Nyquist has previously worked with the men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s tennis teams.
Prior to arriving at the University of Charleston, Michael served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Head Athletic Trainer at Lees-McRae College. Nyquist received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a Sports Medicine concentration from Lees - McRae College (2003) in Banner Elk, NC and his Master of Arts in Sport Management from East Tennessee State University (2006) in Johnson City, TN. He is a NATA Certified Athletic Trainer as well as a West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee Licensed Athletic Trainer. He also holds specialty certifications in Graston Technique (M1), Functional Movement Screen (level 1), Total Motion Release (level 3).
A native of Mankato, MN, Michael currently resides in Kenna, WV with his wife Jennifer, son Emric, and his dog Maya.
