Johnson returns to the University of Charleston as the Offensive Line Coach and will begin his third season as Offensive Coordinator. In 2018 the Golden Eagles offense continued to make strides and produced the first thousand yard Wide Receiver in school history. In the 2015 season with the Golden Eagles, Johnson’s offensive line helped pave the way for a record breaking season.
The offense finished ranked number one in scoring, averaging 41.1 points per game. The rushing offense was ranked number one in the conference and was top 20 in the country. UC completed the regular season with a 10-1 record and qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in school history. Charleston finished the season ranked top 20 in the country. During his tenure, Johnson has mentored 16 All-Conference selections.
Prior to his career at Charleston, he was an offensive graduate assistant at Marshall University. Johnson also served as a graduate assistant for West Virginia University from 2008-2010 where earned his Masters in Athletic Coaching. While with the Mountaineers, he coached the offensive line with coaching stints in the Meineke Car Care Bowl and the Gator Bowl. Johnson played collegiately at Ohio University under head coach Frank Solich from 2003-2008. A three-year starter at left guard, and helped lead the Bobcats to their first bowl appearance since 1966 in the 2007 GMAC Bowl.
A native of Parkersburg, WV, Johnson began his winning tradition with a 2001 WV State Title while with the Big Reds.
