    Defensive Backs Coach
Stephen Palmer begins his 1st year on the coaching staff as the defensive back’s coach. He played collegiately at Mars Hill University, Coffeyville College (JUCO), and Dean College (JUCO).

Prior to coming to the University of Charleston, Coach Palmer was at Lindsey Wilson College as the Cornerback Coach and Returner Coach.

1st season 2022 Fall
#1 total scoring defense allowed #1 total defense in NAIA nation.
Led Mid South in touchdowns allowed (8). Completion rate of 41%. Only given up 184.4 yards per game passing. Help 1st year Defensive Coordinator Daniel Cotter receive Had two All conference players at defensive back.

Before coming to Lindsey Wilson Coach Palmer was at East Texas Baptist University as the defensive back coach

1st season 2021 Spring
Led ASC conference in defensive passing yards allowed, interceptions, defensive passing efficiency, defensive passing touchdowns allowed. Had three All conference players at defensive back as well as D3 All American safety KJ Kelley all first time ever in ETBU history.

Palmer’s coaching career began as a freshman defensive backs coach in Gonzaga High in the fall of 2014 before returning to Mars Hill to be the assistant defensive backs coach. Among the players he coached was Trey Clark, who earned first team All-SAC as a free-safety. Before coming to ETBU, he served as a running back, kick and punt returner coach at Louisburg College in North Carolina. He also spent time in the Canadian Football League as a watch list player for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2017. A native of Germantown, Md., he played high school football at Fork Union Military Academy (Va.), where he was a three-time all-state and all-prep cornerback. Ranked 13th of the top 100 best players in the state, he also was an all-state kick returner. In addition, he became a three-time all-state and all-prep athlete in indoor and outdoor track earning back-to-back championships in the 55m dash. Beginning his collegiate career at the junior college level, he played at Coffeyville College to earning all-conference and All-American at cornerback while helping his team to a 10-1 record in the Jayhawk Conference. Transferring to Dean College, he earned all-conference honors and led his team to the New England Collegiate Conference championship with a 9-1 record. He finished his career at Mars Hill University where he helped his team to a second place finish in the South Atlantic Conference. Palmer earned and Associate Degree in General Studies at Montgomery College and a bachelor's degree of Science in Recreation & Sports Management at Mars Hill University in 2017.
