Will Johnson is entering his 20th season with the Men’s Program and his eighth year with the women’s golf program after joining the UC men’s golfing staff during the 2006-07 season.
During his time with the women, Johnson has earned eight mec coach of the year awards while leading the golden Eagles to two consecutive MEC championships (2018 & 2019). In addition to eight coach of the year awards, Johnson has mentored 23 All-MEC award honorees and two MEC player of the year (Lizzy Karsten in 2019, Iciar Canalejo 2022) and two MEC Freshman of the year (Iciar Canalejo 2022 and Lucia Martin 2023).
In his time with the men, Johnson earned WVIAC coach of the year honors in his inaugural season (2006-07), while also earning the award in 2010 & 2011. After transitioning to the MEC in 2013-14, Johnson has earned 12 MEC Coach of the Years and five Atlantic Region Coach of the Year awards. During this time, Johnson has led several players to earn MEC Player of the Year recognition including Mike Todd, Victor Pustow, and most recently William Carestam in the 2024-2025 season.
Johnson, a five-year standout with the uc men’s program (1993-98), helped the Golden Eagles to as high of a ranking of 24th in the nation during his freshman year.
During the 1995-96 season, Johnson placed first overall at the Glenville State Invitational. During the 1996-97 season, Johnson and the Golden Eagles ranked as high as 15th in the country, as the team went on to win the WVIAC Southern Regional, the Rhododendron Classic, and the Bluefield Invitational en route to five tournament wins on the season.
In his senior season, Johnson earned WVIAC player of the year honors while guiding the golden eagles to a WVIAC Championship, as well as an NCAA tournament berth. During the season, Johnson won individual medalist honors at the WVIAC tournament, as well as winning the WVIAC Central Regional. Johnson finished his career with a 76.6 career average
