Coach Smee has been a part of the Golden Eagles Men’s Soccer Program since 2017. From the fall of 2017 to fall of 2019 he was an Assistant Coach before being promoted to Head Coach in January 2020.
He has won two NCAA Division II National Championships, four Regional Championships, eight Mountain East Conference Regular Season Championships, and eight MEC Tournament Championships. He has also won MEC Coach of the Year five times, was part of the National and Regional Staff of the Year in 2017, and Regional Staff of the Year in 2023 and 2025.
Coach Smee is the Mountain East Conference Men’s Soccer representative and the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region representative for the United Soccer Coaches Connection and completed his three-year service on the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee from 2021-2023.
He has both his US Soccer C and English FA Level Two licenses and even has an English Level Seven referee license.
A native of North Shields, England, he played soccer professionally for Scottish Premier League club Gretna FC from 2006-2008. He went on to win a National Championship with Tyne Metropolitan College in 2009 before pursuing a collegiate career in the USA. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he was a three-year captain, eight-time representative on the Dean’s List, All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference. Following his graduation from WVWC, Smee began his coaching career at Slippery Rock University. He went on to coach at Less-McRae College and West Virginia Wesleyan College before arriving in Charleston.
Coach Smee is the winningest coach in UC Men’s Soccer History with 107 wins and 22 championship trophies.
