Daniel Smee

Coach Smee has been a part of the Golden Eagles Men’s Soccer Program since 2017. From the fall of 2017 to fall of 2019, he was an Assistant Coach, before being promoted to Head Coach in January 2020. Since arriving, Smee has won two NCAA Division II National Championships, four Regional Championships, seven Mountain East Conference Regular Season Championships, and seven MEC Tournament Championships. He has also won MEC Coach of the Year four times, was part of the National and Regional Staff of the Year in 2017, and Regional Staff of the Year in 2023. Coach Smee also was recognized as the 2024-2025 Mountain East Conference Men's Sports Coach of the Year.

A native of North Shields, England, Smee played soccer professionally for Scottish Premier League club Gretna FC from 2006-2008. He went on to win a National Championship with Tyne Metropolitan College in the UK before pursuing a collegiate career in the USA. He attended UC’s Conference rival, West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he was a three-year captain, eight-time representative on the Dean’s List, All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference.

Following his graduation from WVWC, Smee began his coaching career at Slippery Rock University. He went on to coach at Lees-McRae College and West Virginia Wesleyan College before arriving in Charleston.

Smee is a qualified coach with both his US Soccer C and English FA Level Two licenses and even has an English Level Seven referee license.
