Coach Grant Brinson is entering his 15th season as an assistant coach with the University of Charleston Track & Field program, specializing in sprints. A former athlete at UC, Coach Brinson has been a driving force behind the Golden Eagles' dominance in the Mountain East Conference (MEC). A proud alumnus of the University of Charleston, Coach Brinson continues to invest in the success of the program that shaped him as a student-athlete, helping build a legacy of championship-caliber sprinting and academic excellence. Coach Brinson has been a part of 19 Conference Championships with Men’s and Women’s team.
In the 2024–25 season, Brinson’s sprint group once again played a key role in securing team conference championships on both the men’s and women’s sides. His athletes earned 20+ All-Conference honors, with multiple individual champions on both teams, continuing a tradition of excellence and depth in the sprint events.
In the 2023–24 season, his group produced 9 individual MEC champions, 39 All-Conference performers (15 indoor, 24 outdoor), and broke 14 school records. Brinson’s sprinters contributed over 130 combined points in both indoor and outdoor meets to help sweep the conference titles for men and women.
During the 2022–23 season, his athletes delivered 10 event titles, 49 All-Conference honors, and 15 school records—powering another outdoor title sweep and a second consecutive indoor championship for the women.
Over his coaching career, Coach Brinson has developed:

- 150 All-Conference athletes
- 75 Conference Champions
- 30 First Team All-Region honorees
- 20 Academic All-Americans
Brinson’s athletes are consistent record-breakers and championship scorers, with performances that have set new standards in the conference and pushed the program closer to national recognition.
