Qay Stanton

Shanquaylia Stanton

Qay Stanton will be entering her first season as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Charleston for the 2025-2026 season.

In 2025, Qay Stanton helped lead Grand Valley State University to the NCAA Division II National Championship as a graduate assistant, contributing to the program’s tactical execution, player development, and overall success in a remarkable 38–2 season.

Before stepping into coaching, Stanton built an exceptional resume as a player. At Grand Valley State, she was the engine behind the offense and a defensive standout starting all 34 games in her senior year, notching 43 steals, dishing out 114 assists, and earning a spot on the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. Her 18-point performance in the NCAA Midwest Regional Semifinal helped knock out No. 5 Drury, propelling her team to the national stage.

Her collegiate path also included impact seasons at Ranger College, where she earned All-Conference, All-Region, and Honorable Mention All-American honors, and at Eastern Kentucky University, where she was named OVC Newcomer of the Week and ranked among the league’s best in steals and assists.

Originally from Clio, South Carolina, Stanton spent her senior year at Sandy Creek High School in Georgia, earning team MVP honors and surpassing 1,000 career points. Prior to that, she was a standout at Scotland High School in Laurinburg, North Carolina, where she was a multi-year varsity starter and earned All-Conference recognition.
