VIENNA, W.Va. - Micki Murzynski's eighth-inning double scored Amber Jarvis with the eventual game-winning run as Charleston took a 2-1 extra-inning thriller against Shepherd.
The teams locked up in a tight pitchers' duel as eventual winner Stefanie Rossman limited SU to four hits, while fanning seven. Shepherd's Tricia Bettura, the tough-luck loser, gave up six hits and struck out five.
The pair of Jarvis and Murzynski combined for Charleston's first run. Jarvis opened the inning with a single and moved to second on an error. Two batters later, Murzynski's single gave UC a 1-0 lead.
Shepherd knotted the game in the bottom of the inning when pinch-runner Delaney Bell scored via a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Chelsie Oals.
Jarvis and Murzynski were the game's lone players with multiple hits, garnering two each in four at-bats. Bettura, Oals, Nichole Pitcock, and Amber Dudek each had singles to account for the four Shepherd hits.
