CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Senior Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) jumped two spots in the Charleston record books as she netted 25 points to land in 16th place overall for her career in a 87-72 victory over Wheeling Jesuit, Thursday night.
Wheeling Jesuit (4-9, 3-6) came out of the gate fast as it took just leading scorer Kourtney Booth just four seconds to hit one of her patented three-pointers to put the visitors on the board first. A Chrissy Pavlik three would hand the Cardinals their largest lead at 12-7 just five minutes into the contest.
The University of Charleston (10-5, 6-3) stayed within striking distance with its dominant rebounding and the excellent offensive play of senior Ali Tobias (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) as she hit 3-of-6 shots from behind the arc in route to 14 points in the opening half. The Golden Eagles whittled away at small WJU leads for much of the first half before exploding for a 16-1 run over the final six minutes of the opening half. The big run vaulted Charleston to a 46-31 halftime lead.
The second half saw the Golden Eagles exert control as they built a lead as large as 25 points behind 58 percent shooting to put the game away. Nine players were able to find the stat sheet for UC with the Charleston bench securing the 87-72 victory with the final 13 points down the stretch.
Kentner’s 25 points, four rebounds, three steals and five assists led all players in the contest, while Tobias followed close behind with a 20 point and four steal effort. Tarena Dixon (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) continued her dominance of the Eddie King Gym paint with her seventh double-double of the season behind 16 points and 11 rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting.
