BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The lock-down defense of the University of Charleston women's basketball team held the hot offense of WV Wesleyan to just 38 percent shooting en route to running away with a 68-41 road win, Wednesday evening.
The Golden Eagles (8-4, 4-2) held the Bobcats (6-2, 4-1) leading scorer Lydia Bridenbaugh to just four points on 1-of-10 shooting. Bridenbaugh was the sixth best scorer in the West Virginia Conference heading into the contest with an 18.0 point per game average.
Charleston handed WVWC its first conference loss of the season and just its second overall behind 13-point efforts by seniors Ali Tobias (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside) and Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio / Wapakoneta).
Senior Tareena Dixon (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) had another fantastic outing with her fifth double-double of the season as she ended the contest with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Both teams came off the opening tipoff slow offensively as UC took just a 26-24 into halftime, but then exploded for a 42-17 scoring differential in the second half.
The Golden Eagles return to the court on January 8 at 6:00 pm for a home contest against conference opponent Seton Hill.
