CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Head coach Bren Stevens announced the addition of Claire Larry, Julia Moskal and Keely Latham to the University of Charleston volleyball team for the 2011 campaign, Friday morning.
Larry comes to Charleston from University Heights, Ohio and Regina H.S. at Notre Dame College where she won the team award for Most Improved Player in 2010, while also collecting a team-high 0.43 blocks per game along with 311 total kills. She was an active member of her high school student council, while earning second class academic honors.
“I chose UC because when I visited, I already felt like I was part of the team, and I belonged there! I felt like I meshed well with the team, as well as the coaches. I loved the campus and location, & I knew it would be a perfect fit” said Larry.
Moskal becomes the third Canadian player to join the Golden Eagles squad hailing from Essex H.S. in Essex, Ontario. The 5-10 Outside Hitter was a 2011 WECSSA All-Star, while grabbing First Team All-WECSSA honors in 2009-2010. Moskal was a key member of the 2007-08 WECSSA and SWOSSAA Champion programs, while also excelling as a dual-sport athlete in track & field. She chose UC “because of the great environment I experienced on my visit and the opportunity Charleston provides as a student and an athlete.”
The 6-1 Latham provides a strong presence from the right side as she comes to the University of Charleston from the 2010 Nevada State Champion Douglas H.S. She brings a depth of winning experience with a resume that includes Sierra League, Northern Nevada Regional and Las Vegas Invitational Championships. Latham is was four year honor student at Douglas H.S. and graduated with honors.
“I liked the beautiful campus and the Charleston area” Latham said in describing why she picked the University of Charleston, “they have strong athletic and academic programs that will allow me to grow.”
The signees join a Golden Eagle volleyball team that has surged back to become a strong conference championship contender finishing 2010 with an overall record of 19-10, which included an 11-3 WVIAC record to finish the regular season in third-place.
