Head Coach Jason Kozak
Box Score

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The University of Charleston held close but could not overcome the offense from Fairmont State to fall 25-18, 26-24, 18-25, 25-21 in Tuesday's WVIAC matchup.

Charleston (8-11, 3-2) hit just .043 in the opening set as the team committed six errors to only seven kills in a match-low 23 attempts. After tying the set at 13-13 Fairmont State created a comfortable distance on the scoreboard with a 10-3 run to put the set out of reach for the visitors. FSU hit .296 in the set win.

The second set showed much of the same with UC unable to get their offense running together as they hits .094 to the Fighting Falcons .270, yet the Golden Eagles made it tight in the end nearly slipping away with the win. After giving up a 17-13 lead the University of Charleston played catchup to deadlock the set at 24-24 but it wouldn't be enough as Fairmont closed with the final two points.

With a display of offense that looked much more like the Charleston attack that has been shown this season set three was easily taken by the visitors as they caught fire for a hitting percentage of .429. The Golden Eagles ran out to a 18-11 advantage and never looked back en route to the 25-18 set win.

A sub-.100 effort followed the great third set for Charleston to allow FSU to regain traction late to narrowly take the fourth set and seal the game.

Malleri Hardison (Uniontown, PA) paced the University of Charleston with 11 kills in 32 attempts as the teams only double-digit scorer, while Kelsey Eby (Portland, OR) booked 25 assists on the evening. Brenna Youlton (Chatham, Canada) led the defensive effort with a solo block and six block assists.

UC returns home for their next WVIAC matchup on Friday, Oct. 12 when Pitt-Johnstown visits for a 7:00 pm contest.
