CHARLESTON, W.Va. - After hitting .248 for the evening the University of Charleston volleyball team advanced in the WVIAC Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of visiting West Liberty by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-12, Monday night at Eddie King Gym.

UC (15-15) was a force at the net for the entire evening as the Golden Eagle lineup combined for 22 blocks with Brenna Youlton accounting for one solo and nine block assists in the victory. The efforts around the net kept the WLU offense at bay, while setting up quick shot attempts for top-hitters Malleri Hardison (Uniontown, PA) and Victoria Severo (Meadville, PA).

The home team dominated the contest from the opeing set as Hardison paced the offense on the evening with 18 kills with only one error, while Severo followed close behind at 12 kills. Ashley Douglas (Amherstburg, Canada) and Elle Martin (Las Cruces, NM) did their part on defense to keep the Hilltoppers off the scoreboard with 18 and 12 digs, respectively.

Kelsey Eby distributed a game-high 33 assists in the sweep to vault Charleston to a second round matchup against Alderson-Broaddus.

UC and the Battlers will hit the court to close the next round of conference tournament play on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 pm.
