Women's Basketball Eliminated by Concord

Lauren Davis

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Jolysa Brown used her size to impose her will on the University of Charleston women's basketball team to lead Concord past the Golden Eagles 70-48, Wednesday evening in WVIAC Tournament action at the Charleston Civic Center.

Charleston (13-15) held tough in the first half with physical play, but shot just 31 percent for 26 points while Brown booked 21 of the Mountain Lions 31 points. Concord got to the line twice as many times as UC headed into the intermission nailing 10-of-16 attempts with the Golden Eagles managing just 4-of-8.

The second half offered little reprieve for the University of Charleston as they continued to rotate bodies against Brown under the rim in an effort to slow her pace. CU knew exactly how they had built their lead and continued to utilize her abilities to open additional scoring opportunities as the Mountain Lions hit 54 percent of their shots after halftime.

Brown and company outrebounded UC 46-32 to be able to outscore the Golden Eagles 21-to-4 in second chance points to make their offensive attack even more impressive than usual. Brown added 13 points in limited second half action to end the evening shooting 13-for-22 with 11 rebounds and 34 total points.

Lauren Davis (Cincinnati, OH) led the Golden Eagle offense with 14 points, while frontcourt teammate Chrissy Keir (Savreville, NJ) was the only other UC player with double-digits in the scorebook at 11. First Team All-WVIAC selection Erika Rousculp (Worthington, OH) fought against Brown and additional double teams all contest long to walk out of the Civic Center with four points and eight rebounds.

The loss ends the Golden Eagles season with an overall record of 13-15, yet the future looks bright for UC as the team graduates no seniors and will return the entire lineup for a championship run in 2012-13.
