Box Score

ELKINS, W.Va. - After going down 16 points at halftime the University of Charleston women's basketball team blistered the nets for 74 percent in the second half completing an amazing comeback, before running away with the game late for a 73-63 win over Davis & Elkins.

UC (11-10, 10-7) missed 22 shots in the opening half leading to just 20 points on 26 percent shooting, while the Senators (10-10, 9-7) owned the paint and the boards early to net 36 points headed into the break.

Coming out of the halftime pause D&E looked to be cruising to the win at home where they entered the day a perfect 6-0. The Golden Eagles fell down by 19 points three minutes into the second stanza before a new life came over the visiting squad.

Charleston exploded to turn the tides in the game by hitting 23 shots in the second half and reclaiming control of the paint. UC outscored the home standing Senators 26-10 under the basket, while a tough defensive effort led way to 21 points off turnovers.

A gutsy effort from freshman Nichole Perry (Poseyville, IN) sparked the motivation for the University of Charleston, which seemed to be contagious and eventually led way to a scoring landslide that not only brought the visitors back but found them coasting to the win down the stretch. Perry netted a career-high 17 points to pace the Golden Eagles.

An 18-to-3 run midway through the second half put UC back in the game until a 55-55 deadlock at the 6:18 mark. Charleston never looked back from that point using three-pointers by Keir and Perry to secure the 10-point victory.

Guards Chrissy Keir (Savreville, NJ) and Lauren Davis (Cincinnati, OH) did their part in keeping a balanced offensive attack to follow Perry's effort with 14 points, apiece. Keir also furthered her own school-record for consecutive free throws made, extending and setting the new record at 29.

NCAA Division II rebounding leader Erika Rousculp (Worthington, OH) came up short of her rebounding average, but proved to be invaluable defensively under the basket to slow the Davis & Elkins gameplan. Rousculp booked 12 points, five rebounds, four steal and three assists in a strong performance against the Senators.

The Golden Eagles get a much needed break next week as they do not return to the floor until a Saturday, Feb. 11 contest at WVIAC leading Glenville State. The Pioneers have dropped just two WVIAC games this season with one being an 86-84 decision at the hands of UC three weeks ago. GSU and Charleston faceoff at 5:30 pm next Saturday in Glenville.
