Box Score Wheeling, WV - The women from the University of Charleston started the game slow, but used a strong second half to earn an 11-point victory over the host Cardinals, 67-56.
In a game where the Golden Eagles (14-11, 11-10 WVIAC) fell behind early on due to some poor shooting, they fought back to enter the halftime break dead even with the score knotted at 29-29. Although they did tie the game up, poor shooting plagued UC for the entire half only shooting 30% on 10 for 33 from the floor. Luckily for Charleston the home Cardinals (8-17, 5-16 WVIAC) didn't fare much better hitting on just 10 shots on 31 attempts.
The shooting troubles for the Golden Eagles would continue into the second half, but five of UC's 12 made field goals during the next twenty minutes would be from behind the arc which would vault the Golden Eagles to victory. For the contest, Charleston would shoot 22 for 69 from the field, a 32% clip, but would convert from the free throw line going 15 out of 17 to help secure the win down the stretch.
UC was paced by three players who all finished with 15 points,
Chrissy Keir,
Jessi Cowden and
LeAnne Ross. Cowden added 11 rebounds to her point total to get her another double-double on the season while Keir dished out six assists to go along with her 15 points.
Charleston will get back in action on Saturday as they travel to Institute for their last regular season game in WVIAC.
