Softball Drops Double Header to Georgetown College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Georgetown, KY - The University of Charleston would fall in both games to Georgetown College in the final at-bat, dropping to 1-8 on the young season.

In game one of the double header, UC would strike first against the Tigers in the top of the second inning when Aspen Echelmeier (Auburn, CA) would homer over the center field fence to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.  Georgetown would score two in the bottom half of the second to take back the short lived Charleston lead, with the scoreboard showing 2-1 in favor of the home team.  The score would remain unchanged until the top of the 6th inning when UC would put up another run on a solo homerun by Jacqueline Carlin (Whittier, CA), her third of the season, to knot the score at 2 apiece.  Going into the bottom of the seventh with the score tied, Georgetown used two walks and two errors by the Charleston infielders to grab the victory 3-2, scoring the winning run without getting a hit in the inning.

Freshman Morgan Aguirre (Logan, WV) would pitch well despite the loss, going 6 2/3 innings only giving up six hits and two earned runs.  Janeen Vazquez (Cincinnati, OH) and Echelmeier would each go two for three at the plate for Charleston.

Game two saw a bit more offense from both teams, but once again Charleston would score first plating two Golden Eagles in the third inning after a Angel Withrow (Cross Lanes, WV) double that would score Jenna Evans (Chapmanville, WV) and Echelmeier.  And again, the Tigers would quickly grap the lead from Charleston scoring three of their own in the bottom half to make the score 3-2, going into the fourth inning.  Georgetown would get another run in the fourth and UC would add a run of their own in the 6th inning on an RBI single by Andrea Hayes (Columbus, OH) to draw within one run, 4-3.  Trailing by a run going into the final inning, Charleston would score two runs on a couple mistakes by the Tigers to take the lead 5-4 going to the bottom half of the inning.  This time the bats did the damage for the home team scoring two runs on two hits to give them the win, 6-5, and Charleston the loss.

Courtney Fain (Urbana, OH) would pick up the loss for Charleston, pitching the entire game giving six runs on six hits.  At the plate, Carlin and Hayes would both get two hits in their three at-bats and Withrow would pick up three RBI's in her one for four effort.

Charleston will get back in action as they host Bluefield College on March 7th.
