Box Score Charleston, WV – The University of Charleston women couldn’t overcome 27% shooting, losing to the Griffins in the WVIAC Semifinals, 61-49.
It was a slow start from the Golden Eagles who didn’t hit the 10-point mark until eight minutes left on the clock. The Griffins would take advantage of the Eagles shooting woes grabbing a double-digit lead at the 6:47 mark with UC trailing the Griffins 20-10.
Jessi Cowden (Tomball, TX) would bring Charleston within 7 after making UC’s first triple of the afternoon. Cowden and Alviani would trade three’s on 4 straight possessions, but the Griffins would pull away late extending their halftime lead to 11, 30-19.

Kali Cuttaia (Eden, NC) each had six for the Golden Eagles, while Alviani would pace the Griffins with nine. UC shot a dismal 27% from the field hitting on just eight of 30 attempts.
Seton Hill would build on the halftime lead scoring the first four points of the second half, pushing the lead out to 15. UC’s poor shooting continued into the second half, falling behind by as many as 18 at the 10 minute mark, 43-25.
The Golden Eagles would fight back behind three consecutive three’s by Cowden,
LeAnne Ross (Marietta, OH) and
Nichole Perry (Poseyville, IN) to get with nine with eight minutes to play. UC would get as close as seven before Seton Hill would push their advantage out to 13 with just 5:00 showing on the clock.
Again Charleston would fight back, getting within seven with 3:19 to go, but the Golden Eagles couldn’t get over the hump, as the Griffins would advance to the WVIAC Championship game to face Fairmont State, taking care of UC, 61-49.
The Golden Eagles were led by Cowden’s 14 points, converting on four of her eight 3-point FG’s, followed by Ross who scored 13 for the Charleston women.
UC would close out the season with a 16-13 overall record in Collins’ inaugural season.
