CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Shepherd University traveled to Charleston to play the Golden Eagles for a noon kickoff and took a 2-0 win over Charleston on a rainy, cool afternoon at Trace Fork Field.Â
After a scoreless first half, the Rams would strike first as Stephanie Cox ran onto the end a ball played to the side of 18 yard box. UC keeper Zoe Zyta would step out to defend the uncontested Cox and Cox would slide the ball in at the 58:05 mark. In the 63
rd minute, the Rams were awarded a direct kick just outside the top of the 18. Kelsey Smith struck the ball low and hard into the wall and a deflection put the Rams up 2-0.
UC held the edge in total shots 7-5 and UC's keeper Zoe Zyta would record two saves and Shepherd's keeper Anna Mueller completed her shutout with six saves. UC will travel to play Urbana on Tuesday. UC and Shepherd are now tied 5-4 in the MEC standings.
